Sedation dentistry is used here at our Midland dental office so we can provide maximum comfort to our patients. As many as 20% of Americans avoid the dentist due to their dental phobia and fear which has prevented millions of people from receiving the necessary oral care they need to maintain excellent health.
At Permian Basin Dental Center, we want each patient to trust our team and feel safe when undergoing their implant procedure. With our sedation dentistry options, even the most fearful patient will be capable of dismissing any unwanted pain, noise, or discomfort throughout their appointment.
Depending on your distinct case, the number of implants needed, and how nervous you are for your procedure, we will recommend one of three levels of sedation. Based off what we believe is best for you and what you are comfortable with, we will safely manage the sedatives we provide through your treatment.
The three different levels of sedation that we offer at Permian Basin Dental Center are:
Inhalation sedation is a form of conscious sedation where you inhale nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, through a breathing mask. It’s used for patients with mild to moderate dental anxiety and will last throughout your procedure, but wears off quickly after you finish.
This is one of the most common techniques for sedation that we use because of its ease and effectiveness. Patients who receive this method will take a prescribed pill which we provide to you about an hour before your appointment. This will ensure ultimate relaxation by the time you come in and you won’t remember much of your procedure.
Used as the deepest state of sedation, we will administer medication through an IV. You’ll fall asleep almost immediately and we’ll safely manage and control the levels of sedation throughout your entire procedure. Once you reawaken with a new smile, you’ll feel refreshed with little to no memory of the appointment.
Dr. Thompson and our Midland team want any of our patients who may feel nervous about their dental implant procedure to know that we have options to help you get through it. No matter the level of your anxiety or fear, we have a solution for you. Contact our office today to schedule a consultation and learn more about sedation dentistry if you have any further questions.
